The Dorset Theater Festival
- __________
Theater at The Dorset Playhouse has been a town staple since it opened its doors in 1929. The building itself is a piece of history, built from 2 pre-revolutionary barns. Dorset has an exceptional theater community, and The Dorset Theater Festival has announced its schedule for the 2024 season! It’s been home to countless talented playwrights, directors, and actors you might know, like Jayne Atkinson, Tim Daly, Ray Anthony Thomas, and Danny Devito.
The festival started in 1977 as the professional Equity Festival and is now known as the nonprofit we all know and love today. This season will kick off with The Beauty of Queen Leenane, a darkly comic Irish tale and international hit play by Academy Award-Winner Martin McDonagh, directed by Dorset’s Resident Playwright and Pulitzer Prize and Emmy Nominee Theresa Rebeck.
Stay with us at The Inn, enjoy a full country breakfast and a delicious dinner, and take a quick walk down the Dorset Green to enjoy some enlightening entertainment! As always, our guests will enjoy discounted tickets. Take a look at our Performing Arts Package!

While the main draw for some might be the rich history entwined in the home or sprawling 412-acre estate, they truly offer something for everyone. Start at the Welcome Center before exploring the 12 miles of well-groomed trails around the property. The trails lead to their working farm, historic Pullman Sunbeam car, and the Lincoln family home. Take a step back in time and learn the history of the house and the family. Outside, you will view the formal gardens in full bloom and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Battenkill Valley.
